As a Junior HPC Network Engineer, you will support the design, deployment, and optimization of high-performance network infrastructures for Mistral’s HPC clusters and AI workloads. You will work closely with senior engineers to learn, troubleshoot, and contribute to the networking solutions that power our AI research and production environments. This role is ideal for someone eager to grow their expertise in HPC networking while collaborating with a cross-functional team.
Assist in the design and deployment of high-performance, low-latency network architectures for HPC environments, including InfiniBand, RoCE, and high-speed Ethernet, under the guidance of senior engineers.
Support the integration of networking solutions with compute clusters, storage systems, and cloud platforms, collaborating with HPC, DevOps, and AI research teams.
Troubleshoot network issues with supervision, following escalation procedures to minimize downtime and maximize performance.
Monitor network performance, capacity, and security, and assist in implementing improvements as directed.
Document network configurations, architectures, and operational procedures to ensure knowledge is shared and retained.
Stay updated with emerging HPC networking technologies and best practices, and participate in their adoption within Mistral.
Learn from senior team members to develop expertise in HPC networking protocols, hardware, and automation tools.
Basic understanding of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, InfiniBand, or RoCE).
Familiarity with network hardware (e.g., switches, routers, NICs) from vendors like Mellanox, Cisco, or Arista (hands-on experience is a plus).
Exposure to network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting) or a strong willingness to learn.
Basic knowledge of HPC environments, parallel computing, or distributed systems (academic or project-based experience is acceptable).
Awareness of network security best practices.
Experience with Linux/Unix systems and command-line tools.
Exposure to cloud networking (AWS, GCP, Azure) or hybrid environments.
Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Wireshark).
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a willingness to learn.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with guidance from senior team members.
Excellent communication skills (English required; French is a plus).
Eagerness to document and share knowledge with the team.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field OR equivalent practical experience (e.g., internships, personal projects, or certifications).
