Business Development Lead - Vrew US Market
Business Development Lead - Vrew US Market
Lead the expansion of Vrew, our AI video editing suite, into the US market. Vrew serves millions of users in Korea and Japan, primarily individual creators and educators, with growing interest in corporate and L&D use cases.
Vrew takes a fundamentally different approach to video editing. Traditional video editors rely on legacy, film-style workflows and timeline-heavy interfaces originally built for professional post-production. Vrew was designed for users who need simplicity, automation, and speed.
Since its launch in 2018, Vrew has revolutionized video editing with Speech-to-Text (STT) technology, enabling users to edit video as easily as editing a text document. This dramatically lowered the skill barrier. As part of this foundation, Vrew introduced automatic captioning with high accuracy and ease of use.
Since then, Vrew has expanded into a comprehensive AI video editor with Text-to-Speech (TTS) voices, generative image and video capabilities, conversational editing, and streamlined editing tools that rival professional software while remaining easier to use.
Backed by years of iteration and insights from millions of users, Vrew has reached $12M in ARR, primarily from Korea and Japan. In Korea, Vrew is one of the top video editors by both user base and revenue.
But we need to be honest about what we're facing: the US market is fundamentally different. Vrew's current customer acquisition cost in the US is 10+ times higher than in Korea, significantly above the 3x we expected. Churn rates are also considerably higher than what we see in Korea and Japan, indicating we haven't yet found the right PMF or GTM strategy for US users.
Looking ahead, our vision is to build a next-generation Generative UI, where natural language interaction, generative media systems, and intuitive design converge to make video creation radically simple. But first, we need to solve the fundamental challenges of breaking into the US market.
This is a zero-to-one role. You will be one of the first US-based team members dedicated to Vrew, serving as a key bridge between our Seoul HQ and the US market. Your mission is to help us understand why our current approach isn't working and find the wedge that will unlock sustainable growth.
AI Pioneer: Based in Seoul, VoyagerX has been building deep learning and generative AI applications since 2017. We combine startup agility with technical depth from a strong AI development team.
Proven Success (in Asia): Our products are used by millions in Korea and Japan. We have achieved strong PMF in these markets. The US market is our next challenge, one we know won't be easy.
Well-Capitalized: We have raised $35M+ from top-tier investors including Altos Ventures and SBVA (formerly SoftBank Ventures Asia), followed by leading Korean VCs including Yellowdog, InterVest, and Murex Partners. We are financially robust and built for long-term global expansion.
VoyagerX is led by Sedong Nam, who has driven innovation across multiple technology eras in Korea for over 20 years.
He created SayClub (1999), Korea's first major social chat platform during the Dot-com era, and later built B612 (2014), a global selfie camera with over 1 billion downloads during the Mobile era.
In 2017, he founded VoyagerX to make the world a better place through AI, fostering a corporate culture rooted in "Management by Will," a philosophy dedicated to creating a workplace where team members can achieve self-actualization.
High CAC: Vrew's current customer acquisition cost in the US is 10+ times higher than in Korea, significantly above the 3x we expected. We haven't found efficient, scalable acquisition channels yet.
Churn Problem: US users aren't sticking around at the rates we see in Korea and Japan. We need to understand why and fix it.
Market Fit Uncertainty: What worked in Korea and Japan isn't translating. We need someone to help us learn fast, test hypotheses, and find our wedge in the US market.
Competitive Intensity: Players like CapCut, Canva, Descript, HeyGen, and OpusClip are strong competitors. We need a differentiated GTM strategy, not just a better product.
Resource Constraints: As one of the first US-based team members, you'll need to be scrappy and resourceful. You'll be working with a small team without an established playbook.
This role is hard. But if you solve these problems, the impact will be enormous. You'll have full organizational support, direct access to the Founder, and the autonomy to experiment and iterate.
Build Creator & Community Relationships: Establish direct relationships with influential creators, brand ambassadors, and communities (YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Discord) to drive organic growth and validate use cases. Foster a core group of power users who can provide honest feedback and advocacy.
Develop Strategic Partnerships: Establish alliances with key intermediaries and platforms that serve creators, MCNs, creator agencies, and complementary tools (stock media, audio platforms). Test and validate whether these channels can provide efficient, scalable distribution.
Explore B2B & Enterprise Opportunities: Identify and validate B2B use cases across corporate training, internal communications, and educational content. Run pilots with forward-thinking organizations to test different value propositions and pricing models.
Generate Market Intelligence: Explore new verticals (EdTech, HR Tech, Podcasting) to validate PMF. Provide insights that will directly shape our product roadmap and market positioning.
Bridge Seoul HQ & US Market: Work closely with Product and Marketing teams in Seoul to communicate market feedback effectively. Translate US market needs into actionable product priorities.
Identify and validate 2 specific user segments or use cases where Vrew has genuine traction.
Establish 3 strategic partnerships that show early promise for scalable distribution.
Build a pipeline of 10 creator advocates and 5 B2B pilot customers.
Reduce CAC by 30% through more efficient channels.
Provide clear product feedback that improves retention metrics.
Experience: 3+ years in business development, strategic partnerships, or B2B sales within Tech/SaaS. Bonus if you've worked on 0-to-1 market entry or turned around struggling products.
Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (Green Card holder, US Citizen, or valid work visa). At this time, we are not able to provide visa sponsorship.
Korean Proficiency: Ability to communicate with Seoul HQ is required. Conversational to intermediate proficiency is sufficient. We welcome candidates eager to improve their business Korean on the job.
Problem-Solver Mindset: You thrive in ambiguous environments. You're energized by hard problems, not discouraged by them. You have a track record of building something from scratch without a pre-existing playbook.
Time Zone Flexibility: Proven ability to collaborate effectively across time zones with Seoul HQ (KST), utilizing asynchronous communication tools efficiently.
Existing network in the Creator Economy or B2B Video/EdTech markets
Experience launching Korean or Asian software products in the US market
Track record of improving unit economics (CAC/LTV) in competitive markets
Familiarity with AI technology and its business applications
Significant time zone difference with Seoul HQ (though we've built strong async workflows).
You'll be working with a small US-based team that's just getting started.
The market hasn't validated our approach yet, so you'll need to experiment and iterate.
Quarterly 2-week trips to Seoul are required (8 weeks/year total).
Massive impact. Your work will directly shape whether we succeed in the US.
Close collaboration with the Founder and product leadership.
Significant equity upside if we crack the US market.
Freedom to experiment and define the playbook rather than execute someone else's strategy.
Base Salary: $120,000 - $200,000 (commensurate with experience)
Equity: Significant stock options package (details discussed during interview process)
Health Insurance: 100% premium coverage for employees, 50% for dependents
PTO: Unlimited Paid Time Off and flexible work hours
Remote (US): Preference for the West Coast (SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, Seattle) to facilitate collaboration with Seoul
Travel: Quarterly business trips to Seoul HQ (2 weeks per visit) with all travel expenses covered
