Senior Associate / Vice President
Nomura Group is a global financial institution headquartered in Japan, conducting a diverse range of financial businesses including Investment Banking, Global Markets, Asset Management, and Wealth Management.
The Group Risk Management Head Office serves as the strategy, planning and governance function for risk management within Nomura Group and is primarily responsible for the following:
(1)Strategic planning and leading initiatives to further enhance the risk management framework
(2)Management of the new product approval process and operation of committees that review individual businesses and transactions
(3)Stress testing and enterprise risk management
(4)Regulatory responses and disclosures related to risk management
(5)Risk-related data management
This position supports senior management, including the Chief Risk Officer, and leads global efforts to strengthen the Group’s overall risk management framework.
The successful candidate will mainly be responsible for strategic planning and operating enterprise risk management across the Group, as well as initiatives to improve the efficiency of departmental operations. Specifically, this includes:
・Establishing and revising the Group-level Risk Appetite Statement, and continuously reviewing the governance framework
・Enhancing and upgrading departmental MIS (Management Information System), including the creation of dashboards incorporating departmental KPIs/KRIs
・Strategic planning and execution of talent development and capability enhancement within the department
・Establishing, managing, and monitoring the departmental budget
Based on our Purpose, Mission, and medium- to long-term business strategy, the successful candidate will support decision-making and productive discussion among executive officers, in order to make risk management more advanced and effective.
In addition to internal functions within Risk Management (such as Market Risk, Credit Risk, and Operational Risk), this role involves daily and close communication with the Chief Risk Officer and senior management from other corporate functions and overseas offices including New York, London, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Powai. As such, the role requires the ability to effectively coordinate and consolidate diverse stakeholders’ opinions and bring them together smoothly. In carrying out this role, it is also essential to remain mindful of external stakeholders, including clients, shareholders, and regulatory authorities.
This position is for someone who aspires to play a central role in financial institutions and/or risk management in the future and work globally, or someone who is interested in corporate governance.
We are looking for someone who enjoys engaging with diverse values and talent within a global organization, and who can calmly organize challenges and work toward consensus even in situations where opinions differ.
The initial assignment will be the responsibilities described above, but over the medium to long term, there will be opportunities to experience a variety of positions related to risk management.
The base location is the Tokyo head office, but, depending on career goals, there may be opportunities to work at overseas offices such as New York, London, and Singapore in the future.
